FLICS: Heineken Green Room Party @ Silk City 12.16.09

two.one.five Mag did it again.  The Heineken Green Room Party jumped OFF!  DJ Statik & DJ No Phrillz did their thing on the wheels.  And the mic?!  Can we rap about the mic(s) - Black Thought, P.O.R.N., Truck North, Hezekiah, Meek Millz, Dice Raw...it was OUT of control.

FYI:  Black Thought x Dice Raw x Truck North x P.O.R.N. =
The Money Making Jam Boys.

Here is "Contract On The World" by The Money Making Jam Boys.  I spied this over @ okayplayer.  This is some FIYAH, so the party was just the preview of what's to come...#getfamiliar.

My homie, Carolinaware, blogged about our boy Meek Millz over on his site.  You can check that out HERE.  Philly love is not just in the #215...we are worldwide.

Shout-out Tayyib...you're the best I never had, LOL.  xo
Tayyib

I met BLACK THOUGHT @ the 215 Mag Heineken Green Room Party last night...

....#thatisall.

More pics coming soon, I got some great shots.  My life is complete...*dies*

Black Thought & DJ Statik @ Silk City ~ Wed. 16 Dec. 2009

Yoooooooooooo, two.one.five mag is having the Heineken Green Room @ Silk City on Wed. 16 Dec. 2009 from 9 pm - 2 am.  Philly's own Black Thought will be performing w/ DJ Statik (aka Mr. Sonny James) on the wheels.  Should be dope.  I'll be there, EARLY!

BT @ Silk

Shout-out NOAH...thank you ;)  *FOLLOW HIM* on Twitter, folks.

Schoolly D @ Johnny & Brenda's 12.07.09 w/ the fly chicas: Ethel Cee, UV & Selina

I hit up Johnny & Brenda's on a Monday night to catch-up w/ the chicas and check out Schoolly D & his live band.  Ethel Cee had a set w/ DJ Ultraviolet; Selina performed w/ Schoolly D & his band.

Mr. Lif performed w/ Bahamadia & DJ Statik...there wasn't much of an audience, but we made the best of it and had some fun anyways.

Here's some flics from the show:

WrittenHouse x DEPHONIC x Mr. Lif @ Johnny & Brenda's 12.05.09

I hit up Dephonic's release party for their album "Dephonition" @ Johnny & Brenda's w/ Chakka.

WrittenHouse, Dephonic and Mr. Lif performed.

I apologize in advance for the grainy photos during WrittenHouse's set.  There was a fog machine going for some unknown reason and it was really in the mofo way...but after we cleared all that up I was able to get some good shots of the remainder of the show.

Had a lot of fun and met some great people.  And the 'Green Room' was green fo sho...good times.  Follow these talented musicians on Twitter, support their music and check out their sites.  There are links on their names above.

Here's some flics from the show:

Shout-out DJ Statik (aka Mr. Sonny James), Hezekiah and Zarinah.  I see y'all!  xo

"Spread" @ MarBar...hosted by Ethel Cee & Bee Eater Records

Thank YOU, Ethel Cee and DJ Ultraviolet...great night for music & for a good cause.  I had a ball!  *FOLLOW* them on Twitter, become a fan on Facebook, support talented musicians & dope hip hop.

Spectrum Funk @ Silk City ~ 07.29.09

Silk City does it again! They hosted a live art show/music showcase, so of course I went out to support the fam. @NerdAtCoolTable and @fall4ronluv came out from Delaware; Nerd is borderline obsessed w/ Amanda Diva, so it was only right they came out to stalk the "star". The homies Writtenhouse performed (which I was not expecting, a nice surprise!), Hez got on-stage and rocked w/ Jaguar Wright, Snapkracker was in the building doing his photog thing...a great night, good times. Here are a few pics I snapped w/ my POS camera:

Soulville @ Elena's & Writtenhouse @ Draught 07.31.09

Welcome to Soulville!

Toodopegirls in their own words:

toodopegirls. philly. black. women. smart. sassy. spunky. shit talkers. moving shakers. sisters. foodies. artists. daughters. scribes. music lovers. tweet prophets. slightly bourgeois. funky fresh, dressed to impress, ready to party.

get to know us. we don't bite.

Get familiar. FOLLOW THEM on Twitter, check out their blog for prophecies and upcoming events...these women are 'toodope'.

Had a blast, went thru there w/ @MykDyaleks (he's from the group, Brokn.Englsh, if you don't know who they are, GET FAMILIAR!), ran into old friends and made some new ones: shout-out @FreedomReeves (beautiful inside & out), @MikeyMcFly (was doin' his photog thing & even danced a little for us), @brothafrmanotha (he says I tweet too much, I'm gonna change all that, lol), @karaslamb, @toodopegirls, @dopegirlfresh (you're a sweetheart), @aeongotbeats, @alwaysdumhi, @younghgoesin, Ihsan (where are you on Twitter? I certainly follow you and can't find you now!)...and many more who are 'too cool' for Twitter or I just don't know their names!

Feel free to comment and leave Twitter names & caption the pics that are unlabeled. My memory is not what it used to be...I apologize in advance. Here are some pics from Soulville:

Regretfully, I had to leave Soulville when it just started to pop to head to North Philly/Temple area. Writtenhouse performed at the Draught Horse Tavern and I wanted to show support and check out their show as well before they head out of town...please bear w/ me - all I had to take pics w/ was my shitty Kodak digital camera (better than nothing!).

They KILLED their show even though the audience was small - CK had to GO IN when Sleeves' mic went out, a TRUE professional. Check out their site, FOLLOW THEM on Twitter, if you have the opportunity to see them perform live, do it! Go. I co-sign.

After their show we all went back to Soulville and finished the night off...can't go wrong w/ dope hip hop and sexy soul...

Tanya Morgan @ Silk City 07.14.09

Tanya Morgan & Che Grand came thru Silk City and performed. Phonte hosted the show and it was a night to remember.

Tayyib and two.one.five Magazine did the damn thing @ Silk (again!), Dice Raw was in the building, Phonte chatted w/ RJD2... Mikey McFly did me a huge favor by interviewing TM for Blast4MeTV b/c Brian couldn't make it, shout-out, Mikey ;) Phonte danced w/ all the ladies after the performance and showed off his dancing skills. He was impressive, but I think Rita could've danced him out the bulding though, truth be told. My girl, DJ Aura, was on the wheels during Che's set...it was dope to see everyone out having fun.

I had a blast and it was great to finally meet Phonte. Somehow I left Silk w/ Von Pea's jacket, which became a Twitter hot topic the following day. It was a drunken mistake and I returned it to him last night @ Haj's studio. Such a gentleman to lend me his jacket in the 1st place, thanks Von! Funny thing is - the dress I wore that night? Zarinah and DJ Ultraviolet both have the same one! We may form an all-girl group and wear them out one night.

Lesson learned: Red Bull + Henny = #notagoodlook in these Red Bull streets, fam.

Tanya Morgan - Che Grand, Phonte - DJ Statik

Tanya Morgan will be back in Philly next week - this time it's not just a listening party...this time they will perform. I know a lot of hip hop fans are geekin' for this show just. like. me.

Hosted by: two.one.five magazine and Phonte
(of Little Brother and The Foreign Exchange)

Wednesday, July 14th - Silk City
5th & Spring Garden. 10pm-2am.

$7 in advance, $10 @ the door or BUY THEM HERE

I plan to attend. Philly stand up! Get out and support good music and talented musicians. And why wouldn't you? This is a two.one.five mag event. Looking forward to meeting some other TM fans here in Philly and just kickin' it w/ the guys again.

Rock The Bells & Bee Eater Showcase 06.24.09

Budweiser and Rock The Bells had an audition @ 941Theater on Wednesday 06.24.09 to battle for the opening spot at the Rock The Bells concert. I went out to support my fab chica, Zarinah, and the homie Cymarshall Law. You can find Zarinah here on Twitter and MySpace.

Dice Raw hosted and he was not playing any games w/ the contestants. He is a tough critic and hard to impress. DJ Aura and I met up and attended...w/minimal transportation drama, but we made it nonetheless. Zarinah was on stage when we arrived, so we rushed in to catch the rest of her set.

Zarinah killed, Cy did his thing, alas some dude named "Big Worm" won (I think it was more for his dance and crowd hype than his lyrics alone) He scored 9's from all 3 judges, so his score of 27 won the battle.

After the battle at 941 we all headed to Silk City for the Bee Eater Showcase, hosted by Mars. Met Mars at the Jay $tay Paid Dilla Mixtape release party @ Johnny & Brenda's a few wks ago...what a small world we hip hop heads in Philly travel in.

I met and clicked w/ a lot of talented artists, musicians, rappers, etc. Here is a slideshow of some of the many photos I took that night. A dead battery is a serious FAIL when attempting to properly document an event, but I did my best w/ what I had.

Recording Cymarshall Law's entire performance was no good for my almost dead battery, but worth every minute of it. Plus the photographer drawin, he kept getting in the way, but it was all good. Check him out here in my YouTube video, he's also on Twitter and MySpace. Very talented rapper...keep your eyes and ears open for him.

SUPPORT talented musicians and REAL hip hop, folks. Get out & get involved.

Props to two.one.five mag for the heads up...it was great FINALLY meeting Tayyib. If you don't know who he is, you live under a rock. Follow him and check out his mag/his site. He is the hip hop/Philly night life guru. So glad I went out on a Wednesday...

I wasn't going to go out, didn't want to get dressed, I had a long day...but the Rock The Bells auditions were going down @ 941 (941 N. Front St., Northern Liberties) - @Zarinah, @cymarshalllaw and some notable others were performing, so I forced myself to get dressed and take my ass out. I got up w/ @djaura360 beforehand and we met up @ 941.

*Sidebar* For those of you who Twit, you know what the @____ means...so do us all a favor, FOLLOW THEM, holla @ them, get to know them...they doing thangs ;)

After 941 we headed to Silk City for the Bee Eater Records Showcase...215 Magshout-out two.one.five mag for the heads-up via Twitter and otherwise.

Blog, flics, video coming soon...it's 1:32 am and I just had to post this asap. Shout-out Mars, we met thru @mikeymcfly at the J Dilla jawn, @livefromphilly...somehow I have a feeling I am gonna end up in a lot of his flics b/c he's damn sure in a lot of mine. We were across the stage from one another @ Silk City.

~Ciao , for now ~

Tales from the Twit...

So today was my 1st day @ my new job. I went to bed early, woke early, ironed my clothes, did my hair, got ready...I was well-rested and ready to go. Excited about being back to work after this BS lay-off. I planned on driving my truck the 10 blocks from my apartment to the El. From there I planned on parking and catching the train to work...no CC parking, road rage BS, traffic...back to public...quiet yet intriguing...

Of course nothing goes as planned. Nada...not in mi vida loca. Long story short, I rear-ended this chick 2 BLOCKS from the El. 2 ef'n blocks from my destination. She was making a left-hand turn @ a green light then braked all of a sudden, I braked, rear-ended her, now my POS truck really IS a POS, or more of a POS...having to call cops, and as we all know Philly cops take their sweet time...I was so ef'n pissed and all I could think of is I'm. Going. To. Be. Late. My. First. Day.

The police got their rather quickly and I ended up being only 40 mins. late for work. My new boss was very cool, very understanding (of course I called like a responsible late person and notifed her as soon as!), I have no complaints about the gig so far - especially the environment. Very cool and laid back...and guess what? I'm on the green floor. My fave color. I'll be training all this week so no clue yet what my co-workers or anything else is gonna be like yet. Plus she let us out early yet paid us for the whole day. The chick who started w/ me is Gina from South Philly. I have a feeling I'll be writing more about her in blogs to come...

Anyways, I was just rather bummed and after twitting the drama, going through training, thinking about time-consuming insurance calls, stressing about raised premiums, questioning my karma, not-so-looking-forward to a camping trip this weekend w/ fam that we've been planning since last year...I went outside and sat outside City Hall. I refreshed my Twitter screen on my phone and read back through @ replies people had left me all day...and just random comments I saw some of my buddies posting.

Wayno119@titi_215 Itll be ight that shit can be replaced

CHANLOO@titi_215 keep ur head up mama

ManetaneIcon_lock@titi_215 you aight?

brothafrmanotha@titi_215 aw damn, for real? hope you're OK.

therealhop@titi_215 are you ok?

livefromphilly@titi_215 Well, that's wack but I hope the actual work part if your first day is great :)

And I thought to myself - some/most of these people I have never even met! Not face-to-face, hung out w/ one-on-one...but we all connected somehow through someone on-line somewhere. And that's gangsta.

RT @uncleo "Remember when u think u have it bad & the world seems 2 b crashing down on u, someone else would love 2 have ur problems."

And when I saw that, I HAD to RT. How true. Here I am bummed about a POS truck and I have a job! This recession is insane and these few months off of work have been HELL for me. I cannot imagine what it is doing to the people who have families to support! Obama is doing his thing though, I have faith...it will get better. It damn sure can't get any worse. For all of us.

Then I saw this:

RT @215tayyib @MrSonnyJames @Tahero @EssoDubble @titi_215 @Niki_Noche @whu @questlove-
http://bit.ly/GA5D3

The same @215tayyib I have been trying to run into only since the @TanyaMorgan listening party (which he wasn't there, but he better be at their show @ Johnny & Brenda's on July 13th, per @mfmusic, whom I saw at The Roots Picnic!!) This among many other things made me smile today when I needed it most. I am remembering all the good times I had seeing The Roots, remembering why I chose and why I love this City in the 1st place... "Obstacles can be a form of liberation...Difficulties are required for success." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Oh yeah ~ and "Wayne's World" is coming soon...y'all not ready for me & @wayno119's collabo...his tat game is vicious and we're documenting it all. Start to finish. Words and flics...I'll announce via Twitter when Part I is ready. xoxo @wayno119 for letting me be a part of this...Goonies for life.
