3rd Annual Roots Picnic follow-up
Special THANKS to Tayyib Smith of two.one.five magazine and Rachel F. at Philly 360. Had a BLAST at the picnic, met lots of cool people, reconnected w/ old friends, got some great shots...dope day for art and music.

The Legendary ROOTS Crew Lt. Black Thought (he performed on-stage w/ the Money Making Jam Boys and The Roots)
My homies Mark (aka @Carolinaware) and Mr. Phonte Coleman (of Little Brother and The Foreign Exchange). FE performed at the picnic as well, s-o Aimee, Nic, YahZ, Zo!, Bynum, D-Brock and the entire FE fam. Always a good time when I run into these guys. FE's 3rd album will be released soon as well. Can't wait for that.
Jay Electronica on-stage. The fans and the other performers went nuts when he took the stage! He stopped a few times, talked to the crowd, jumped INTO the crowd at one point to stand on the gate in the pit....he did the damn thing. I'm a HUGE Jay Elec fan and I was not disappointed.
P.O.R.N. of the Money Making Jam Boys on-stage, DJ Phsh was on the wheels for their set in the background. If you don't know who MMJB are? #getfamiliar They got next. I've wrote about them before on here, look back through the posts? Or pay attention the 1st time I tell y'all!
John Legend performed on-stage w/ The Roots. He also brought along his beautiful girlfriend and their dog. When I saw the dog backstage I was like who's dog is that?! Lmao. I should've snapped a pic of the dog too.
Method Man crowd surfing. The crowd was bananas when Wu came out, everyone had their "W" in the air, they were backed by The Roots band, EPIC performance. You had to be there. And if you weren't? Enjoy my photos over on THE COUCH SESSIONS and check out Philly 360's links (above) as well.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mel D. Cole of Village Slum photos again...we met in NYC at a show before, but Saturday at the picnic I had the opportunity to really watch him work and talk to him a few times. He is SO DOPE. One of my photog idols. If you have never seen his photos, you need to check em out. He got a sneaker deal w/ Etnies, he's ?uestlove's fave photog, a huge Slum Village fan and just an all-around dope dude. *Namaste*

The Clipse in-store @ UBIQ 01.08.10
The day after my birthday, VA's own The Clipse came to Philly. Unless you've been living under a rock, you would know that their new album "Til The Casket Drops" was released 12.08.09. It's in stores now, cop that! And again, this is NOT a music blog. I can't keep you folks up w/ ALL the good music being released...there are music blogs, magazines & shows for that. But I do what I can :)
I headed down to UBIQ on 15th & Walnut w/ Ashley. I 'met' Malice on Twitter long before they came to Philly, and I looked forward to finally getting to meet him in person. Malice & Pusha T graciously signed autographs and posed for pics w/ fans. Freeway* came through, free Heineken for everyone, my homie DJ Ambush was on the wheels, I ran into a few friends and scenesters, I met The Clipse...all was good.

After the in-store me & Ash headed over to Byblos, a Greek spot on 18th St, to have birthday dinner and share cherry hookah. An evening well spent. Good music, good food, food people. My entire birthday week was awesome.

two.one.five Mag did it again. The Heineken Green Room Party jumped OFF! DJ Statik & DJ No Phrillz did their thing on the wheels. And the mic?! Can we rap about the mic(s) - Black Thought, P.O.R.N., Truck North, Hezekiah, Meek Millz, Dice Raw...it was OUT of control.

Yoooooooooooo, two.one.five mag is having the Heineken Green Room @ Silk City on Wed. 16 Dec. 2009 from 9 pm - 2 am. Philly's own Black Thought will be performing w/ DJ Statik (aka Mr. Sonny James) on the wheels. Should be dope. I'll be there, EARLY!

9/11 - 8 years later...
The show is going down! Hov is doing his thing. John Mayer was rippin' the guitar solos, Pharrell is doing his collabo thing, Santigold represented...all is well for hip hop, Jigga and Roc Nation. I think people are forgetting what this is all about: 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales and concert merchandise will go directly to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund.
Community service is an important aspect of maintaining and sustaining our communities. I have been a volunteer since I was young. My parents instilled in me the importance of helping the less fortunate, to be grateful for my middle-class life, to be aware of what is going on in the world around me...and most importantly to value my time and spend it wisely. From clothing & toy drives, to Girl Scouts, to tutoring kids in Math after-school at the Boys and Girls Club, to helping flood victims complete FEMA applications, to a runaway teen hotline, to a youth homeless shelter in Germantown, to the Northern Home for Children in Manayunk...community service gives me awesome personal satisfaction.
I have met so many like-minded people and beautiful souls through my years involved in various community service programs. The experiences are priceless, the encounters numerous, the relationships irreplaceable.
Currently I am registered with Greater Philadelphia Cares. This organization is involved in various programs all over Philadelphia - youth, inmate, elderly, immigration, athletics, arts & crats, etc. Once registered they will send you a newsletter and email updates for upcoming events. You contact the assigned project leader for the project you are interested in participating in, you show up, there - you volunteered. It's THAT easy. And so worth it.
Tayyib Smith, one of the founders of two.one.five magazine and the COO/founder of Little Giant Media Inc., contacted me a few weeks ago about a project he was involved with and interested in. It's a great cause. I wanted to use my small voice and my blogging abilities to spread the word and share with you all what is going down and how you can help out and be a part of it.
The project is called United We Serve.
Per Tayyib, here is the plan:
The primary initiative of United We Serve is to “expand the impact of existing organizations by engaging new volunteers in their work and encourage volunteers to develop their own “do-it-yourself” projects”. In order to contribute to this initiative, video vignettes highlighting individuals and organizations that are making positive impacts in the Philadelphia region will be composed and distributed to various viral media outlets. Every day starting on September 1st and ending on the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance, an individual or organization will be highlighted. Each subject will be asked a series of three over-arching questions: 1) Why do you volunteer? 2) How has service brought about change in your life and the community? 3) How can someone get involved in your service project? This series will bring to light those that are agents of change in the Philadelphia area and inspire others to do the same in the region and throughout the country.

The weather was great, I took the train down to Northern Liberties. I got up w/ Zarinah, re-connected w/ Lif, Manetane & his son were there, photogs Mikey & James were out flic'n it up...good times. Tayyib & Matt were celebrating the launch of two.one.five mag - there were skaters & Red Bull everywhere! Had an adult shake @ PYT w/ Tommy, and lemon drops after the show w/ Kush. On Saturday, August 15th, in celebration of the highly anticipated "Adrenaline" issue of two.one.five™ Magazine, Philadelphia’s best youth-culture journal will host a massive Block Party throw-down at Philly’s premiere outdoor venue, the Piazza in Northern Liberties. Acclaimed performers such as RJD2, Mr. Lif and Elevator Fight will be amongst the entertainers performing, while guests enjoy an around-the-way block party in a beautiful central square.
The two.one.five bash will also serve as the finish line block party to close out the Red Bull Block-to-Block Racing Spectacular -- the perfect ending to a day of sunshine, revelry and dope beats.

Tanya Morgan & Che Grand came thru Silk City and performed. Phonte hosted the show and it was a night to remember.
Tayyib and two.one.five Magazine did the damn thing @ Silk (again!), Dice Raw was in the building, Phonte chatted w/ RJD2... Mikey McFly did me a huge favor by interviewing TM for Blast4MeTV b/c Brian couldn't make it, shout-out, Mikey ;) Phonte danced w/ all the ladies after the performance and showed off his dancing skills. He was impressive, but I think Rita could've danced him out the bulding though, truth be told. My girl, DJ Aura, was on the wheels during Che's set...it was dope to see everyone out having fun.
I had a blast and it was great to finally meet Phonte. Somehow I left Silk w/ Von Pea's jacket, which became a Twitter hot topic the following day. It was a drunken mistake and I returned it to him last night @ Haj's studio. Such a gentleman to lend me his jacket in the 1st place, thanks Von! Funny thing is - the dress I wore that night? Zarinah and DJ Ultraviolet both have the same one! We may form an all-girl group and wear them out one night.
Lesson learned: Red Bull + Henny = #notagoodlook in these Red Bull streets, fam.
