As promised, here are the pics I took @ the show 07.24.09 at The Music Box in the Borgata, Atlantic City. I was 1st row, front of the stage, center...by far the BEST Roots performance I have ever witnessed thus far. And I've seen them 13 times! Plus 2 picnics. So yeah, it's that deep for me.
Maxwell was performing in the same casino, different venue that night. I could've went to that show as well. I have seen Maxwell once before at The Tower on 69th Street. I skipped out on that though because I did not want to miss ONE minute of The Roots' set.
?uestlove gave out drumsticks at the end, per usual, and of course I was not fortunate enough to snag one. No matter. After the show we went to MIXX, the club in the casino, where ?uestlove was DJ'ing that night. I was, however, fortunate to get back in VIP thanks to a special friend (*hi-5*) and we kicked it w/ the group and took flics. Doug E Fresh was back there w/ his sons - they brought him out on stage at the end of the set. Captain Kirk, Kamal, Skillz, Tuba Gooding, Jr. - basically everyone but Black Thought was there. Nay and I had a ball bustin' it up w/ Hipps and Doug E's two sons.
This is one of my best moments of 2009. I will never forget this night.
